11. Rafadan Tayfa Galaktik Tayfa; movie review

RADAFAN TAYFA - GALAKTICK TAYFA
Cert PG
86 mins
BBFC advice: Contains infrequent mild bad language

Any followers of everyfilm will know that I begin the year with the very best intentions of ticking off all UK movie releases.
If that means watching a Turkish animation in a cinema more than 100 miles from my home, so be it.
Thus, I found myself at Lee Valley Odeon on a Sunday lunchtime for the latest Rafadan Tayfa adventure.
These are sparked when Akin (voiced by Sirin Giobbi), the cleverest member of an astronomy club discovers a spaceship in the earth's orbit.
Consequently, he and his more flamboyant pal (Levent Kol) grab some headlines and, in doing so, attract the attention of the alien who had come down from the ship.
This is the beginning of a very convoluted narrative as the boys and their friends try to assist the charming green creature back on board his vessel.
Meanwhile, a journalist is keen to gain the scoop on their story and a mysterious agent is out to nab the alien.
Ismail Fidan's computer animation is aimed fair and square at young children and they were certainly laughing loudly early on.
However, by the end of the movie, several were running around the theatre, giving the impression that they were bored.
For what it's worth, I thought the plot was a bit repetitive and I was a little bit brassed off with the portrayal of the journalist who simply gave up the pursuit of her story because she didn't want to upset new friends and reveal the whereabouts of the alien.
In other words, journalists are bad people. Sigh.
Anyway, Rafadan Tayfa Galaktik Tayfa was ticked off and I doubt I will remember it past next week.

Reasons to watch: Jolly animation
Reasons to avoid: Not enough laughs

Laughs: None for me but a couple for the kids in the audience
Jumps: None
Vomit: None
Nudity: None
Overall rating: 4.5/10

Did you know? Rafadan Tayfa TV series began broadcasting on TRT Çocuk on December 1, 2014.

The final word. Ismail Fidan: "This is the first time we have been released in Europe today and we were screened in Azerbaijan. We used to receive sad messages from them because the films were not released there before. We received messages of happiness today." Orta Dogu
